Norman Rockwell (Amer.1894-1978) Known as “America’s best-loved illustrator,” Rockwell studied at The Art Students League in New York, with Thomas Fogarty, George Bridgman and Frank Vincent DuMond. He created 323 covers for the Saturday Evening Post, one more than his idol and inspiration, J.C. Leyendecker. Although Rockwell did not personally study with him, Howard Pyle was a powerful influence on his development as an artist, and Rockwell had several Pyle paintings hanging in his studio. Rockwell’s best known works are the Four Freedoms created in 1943. Harold Stevenson was one of the five Art Students League WW2 veterans that Rockwell personally selected to study with him in his Vermont studio in 1946.
Meryl Ann Butler studied with Harold Stevenson, who studied with Norman Rockwell.
