Enjoy this virtual guided tour of the stunning “Whistler to Cassatt” exhibit , which explores the work and intriguing backstories of American artists who went to Paris between 1855 and 1913 to study and work.

This ambitious exhibition features a large group of paintings by Mary Cassatt,  John Singer Sargent and James Abbott McNeill Whistler. It also includes other notable American women, such as Elizabeth Jane Gardner, Cecilia Beaux, Elizabeth Nourse, and Lilla Cabot Perry, as well as the celebrated African American artist, Henry Ossawa Tanner and other American Impressionists.

In this engaging and informative presentation you’ll be treated to some of the most beautiful of the 118 paintings on display as well as their backstories—a lovely way to enjoy the exhibit virtually–or, if you are one of the lucky ones who plans to attend in person, you’ll get some valuable background that will enhance your visit.

You’ll gain insight into the artist’s professional processes as well as intriguing tidbits about their private lives!

The “Whistler to Cassatt” exhibit premiered at the Denver Art Museum in late 2021 and completes its two-museum tour at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts on July 31, 2022.
