Harold Ransom Stevenson (Amer. 1924-1985) studied at the Art Student’s League with Frank Reilly, Robert Beverly Hale, Louis Bouche and John Groth. He was one of five students who were also WW2 veterans who were selected by Norman Rockwell to study with him at his Vermont studio.

Stevenson was a designer of model airplanes, (some of his plans can be downloaded here) and he specialized in model airplane illustration before opening The Stevenson Academy of Traditional Art in Sea Cliff, NY, where he taught along with his artist-wife, Alma Gallanos, a former Art Director for Colgate-Palmolive.

Meryl Ann Butler studied at The Stevenson Academy of Traditional Art from 1968-1971 and attended the Stevenson’s New Renaissance Atelier from January 1972-September 1974.

Other Stevenson-Gallanos atelier students include current practicing artists William Jonas, Sharon Sprung, Roger Goode and Paul Bachem; as well as late artists Robert Stark, Jr. and Attila Hejja.
