Raimundo de Madrazo y Garreta (Spanish 1841-1920) A member of the Madrazo art dynasty,  his first lessons came from his father Federico de Madrazo and grandfather José de Madrazo y Agudo (former Director of the Prado Museum.)  He later studied in France with Léon Cogniet. His style was influenced by his friend, Alfred Stevens.

He was a frequent exhibitor at the Paris Salon, and won a major medal at the Exposition Universelle (1889)

Famous during his lifetime, he painted many portraits for wealthy patrons. He often visited New York to sell his paintings, the Vanderbilt family was among his clients there.

Léon Joseph Florentin Bonnat was one of his students.
